Pioneer Human Services operates the Roadmap to Success (RTS) job-readiness training programs and multiple workshops across the state of Washington. In Seattle and Spokane, the RTS programs have continued to operate as virtual training programs via Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic to keep all students safe. Recently, Heaven Robinson, a case manager at the Seattle RTS program (pictured left) shared a story on Samantha, a student that she has been working with over the last several weeks.

During COVID, Samantha applied and was accepted into the RTS virtual program and immediately set goals for herself to achieve. Heaven Robinson shared, “From the start, Samantha has been motivated to accomplish all of the goals she set for herself in the program. It was a pleasure to work with her and give her guidance along the way.”

Samantha really worked closely with her case manager, Heaven, on behavioral barriers that have held her back in the past. Communication and boundaries were covered to help Samantha move forward on her journey of rebuilding her life. Since completing the RTS Program, Samantha took the initiative to get her driver’s license reinstated so she has a form of ID and can eventually drive a car that she earns. She was pro-active with finding a job and applied for several employment positions. It was very exciting to share her joy when she gained full-time employment to help get herself financially stable. Samantha’s current goal is finding permanent housing that is safe and convenient to her work location.

Through the generous donations of our donors, Samantha was able to receive funding for her Orca bus pass that gets her to her employment, appointments and is a mode of transportation to check out housing opportunities. She is so grateful for the transportation funds as it has helped her reach the goals she set for herself.  Also, she expressed her appreciation for all of the assistance and support she received from Pioneer's staff to include confidence rebuilding tools, and constant emotional support, reminding her that she CAN and WILL succeed.

“Samantha has been a shining star in our program and is continuing to make major strides towards her journey ahead. We are so proud of her and happy that we could be a part of her reentry process,” said Heaven.
