Equity, Anti-Racism and Belonging
Our Statement
At Pioneer Human Services, we believe that equity is essential to our mission and must be reflected in how we serve communities and support each person within our organization. As a provider of critical reentry, housing, treatment, and employment services, our responsibility to advance equity is not theoretical—it is lived, measurable, and urgent.
We acknowledge the persistent effects of systemic racism, mass incarceration, and generational poverty, and we affirm that those impacted by the legal system deserve not only a second chance but a fair chance—one supported by systems designed for dignity, not punishment.
However, our commitment to equity goes beyond reentry. We recognize that barriers exist across multiple dimensions of identity, including race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, veteran status, socioeconomic background, and age. To that end, we are building an organization where:
- Justice-impacted individuals are embraced as valuable contributors and future leaders.
- People with disabilities and Veterans are recruited intentionally and supported through accessible practices and accommodations.
- Women and BIPOC employees are represented and supported at all levels of leadership and decision-making.
- LGBTQIA+ individuals can bring their full selves to work without fear of harm or exclusion.
- Employees at all levels are empowered to contribute, be heard, and thrive.
We commit to transforming not only our services—but also our internal policies, procedures, and culture—to uphold principles of equity, transparency, and accountability. This includes:
- Embedding inclusive behaviors into leadership competencies, promotions, and onboarding processes
- Conducting regular equity audits to evaluate and align compensation, benefits, and advancement systems
- Using disaggregated data to inform decision-making and monitor outcomes across all identity groups
- Creating equity dashboards and reporting tools that are transparent and action-oriented
- Supporting staff at every level with culturally responsive training, structured career development pathways, and psychological safety
We understand that DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) is not a checklist or program. It is a strategic, ethical, and operational imperative that must be lived daily in our leadership decisions, community relationships, and workplace culture.
We hold ourselves accountable for measurable results. This includes:
- Increasing representation in leadership of historically underrepresented groups
- Closing equity gaps in hiring, retention, advancement, and compensation
- Ensuring that feedback loops from employees, clients, and community partners influence real change
We envision a future where every employee, every client, and every partner experiences belonging, safety, opportunity, and joy in their engagement with Pioneer Human Services. We are committed to that future and will work with urgency, integrity, and humility to achieve it.
